Directions:

Generally, Google Maps provides good directions in Dublin, so feel free to use it to get advice, check bus pick-up times, etc. Click here for the Google Maps directions page for the workshop location (input your own start point and transportation method).

Public transit in Dublin consists of trains (the “DART”), trams (the “Luas”), city buses, and express buses. The closest tram stops to UCD are Milltown and Windy Arbour (click here for a system map), but both are 35 minute walks from campus. Express buses are more expensive and best for getting to/from the airport. So, setting aside taxis, rideshare, city bikes, and walking, most participants should use city buses to get to UCD.

The city buses are paid for via cash or via the TFI Leap Card. The latter is a rechargeable card that you use as you get on city buses and commuter trains, and as you get on + off the trams. You “tap on” when you get on the city buses either (a) by telling the driver your destination and placing your card on their reader or (b) by tapping the reader to the right of the driver. (a) will result in a fare sensitive to the number of stops you will pass, up to a limit (over the limit results in the maximum fare), while (b) will result in the maximum fare regardless of how far you travel.

If you are coming from the Mespil Hotel, then you should take the 39A bus towards UCD from the Baggott St Upper stop. You take it 12 stops to the UCD campus stop, then walk deeper into campus. You can also take the 145 bus towards Ballywaltrim or the 155 bus towards Bray from the Leeson St Upper stop. You take them 10/11 stops to the Woodbine Road/Booterstown stop, then walk across the bridge to campus.

If you are coming from the city center (i.e., O’Connell Bridge area), then you should take the 39A bus towards UCD from the D’Oiler St stop. You take it 19 stops to the UCD campus stop, then walk deeper into campus. You can also take the 155 bus towards Bray from the D’Oiler St stop. You take it 17 stops to the Woodbine Road/Booterstown stop, then walk across the bridge to campus.

In either case, you should use the above Google Maps link to plan ahead when to walk to the stop of your choice.

For other starting points, use the above Google Maps link, input your starting point address, and select public transit as your transportation option.
